The journey of finding our new home, Clayground (Ferticlay studios), was a long and arduous one to say the least. For first-time hardware startup founders, we knew finding a suitable space that we could efficiently and creatively operate in would be a challenge in land-scarce and rule-rich Singapore. Offers came and went, most of them turned down either because they were too expensive or too shabby. It was difficult finding something in between. We assumed a good offer would eventually present itself and decided to stop striving as we looked for a space to call home. And just as we rested, a door opened! Jodie met Zac Toh, the co-founder of Vidacity, a space that was created to house and support sustainability startups specifically, thereby forming a solid ecosystem of green entrepreneurs, all nestled in a refurbished primary school. We were instantly hooked by the vision for this space and after a few chats, we signed with Vidacity. The news of Vidacity's existence came at a time when we were sick and tired of being offered office cubicles and co-working spaces. That's just not what hardware startups need. Our ideas and operations simply cannot be limited to a cubicle, and we had to find a place where we would be able to just play with clay. Finding a space that provides that kind of freedom is hard to come by, and that is why we are beyond thankful to have found a space that not only allows that, but one that is built for the sole purpose of fostering collaborations and mind-sharing across folks that care about the earth. We welcome you to visit the office/studio/showcase/workshop that is Clayground- a place where we will quite literally be breaking ground. Come by and play with clay!
